LEGOLAND Windsor announced that an exciting multi-million pound attraction – Atlantis Submarine Voyage – will be unveiled at the theme park this summer.
Forming part of a wider £30 million investment from parent company, the Merlin Entertainments Group, Atlantis Submarine Voyage will be an impressive £8 million attraction and the first LEGO-themed underwater ride in the world.
Families will be taken on an exhilarating marine voyage inside custom-built LEGO®-themed submarines that hold up to 14 people. Inside they will explore a mesmerising 1,000,000 litre ocean tank featuring over 50 species of rare sharks, rays and tropical fish.
Nearly 100 striking, bespoke LEGO brick models and features are being hand built to bring Atlantis to life by the LEGO model building team. An estimated 2,683 hours of work creating the models will be completed ahead of the launch.
The new attraction is expected to create over 50 jobs for the Windsor theme park, with three specialist jobs for the aquarium; one displays curator and two aquarists.
Sue Kemp, Divisional Director of LEGOLAND Windsor, comments: “This is LEGOLAND Windsor’s biggest attraction investment ever by the Merlin Entertainments Group and is testament to the continued success of the park. Atlantis Submarine Voyage represents a unique partnering of a LEGOLAND park with SEA LIFE, Merlin’s global number one aquarium brand and will offer families something they’ve never seen before. She continued: We have the benefit of working with an experienced team whose talents will be showcased by this breathtaking attraction. I’m confident that Atlantis Submarine Voyage will be a must-visit attraction for guests of all ages who’ll be enchanted by this fascinating underwater adventure.”
Marine experts based at the Windsor attraction will be working with SEA LIFE colleagues at the forefront of global marine conservation. Regular research projects will be carried out at the new aquarium and education programmes will also be offered. These will encourage families and school groups to consider the issues that impact on aquatic life by getting involved in campaigning to preserve marine habitats and protect endangered species.
LEGOLAND Windsor opens its doors on Friday 1st April 2011 and as part of its 15th birthday celebrations this year the park will be holding a LEGO Star Wars themed After Dark laser show for the Easter holidays. In March 2012 the theme park will open a new 150 bedroom LEGOLAND Hotel, transforming LEGOLAND Windsor into a destination resort in order to meet the growing demand from visitors wanting to extend their stay at the park.
