Los Angeles, CA, USA (June 13, 2012) /PRNewswire/ — The filmmakers behind Bible Storyland , an offbeat, independent documentary, have announced the film’s World Premiere at the 18th Annual San Antonio Film Festival in San Antonio, Texas. With elements of retro-Americana and Old Hollywood, this quirky film follows Los Angeles art dealer Harvey Jordan on his obsessive decade-long quest to uncover the mystery behind the plans for this unusual theme park designed by former Disneyland executives and championed by Jack Haley (The Wizard of Oz) that was intended to open in Southern California in the early 1960’s.

“We’re especially thrilled to hold our World Premiere at San Antonio’s Film Festival,” says Jordan who was born in the Alamo City. “San Antonio is a very vibrant, culturally diverse city and home to many theme parks. We believe it’s the perfect place to introduce Bible Storyland to audiences who will surely enjoy taking the film’s eclectic journey.”

Stephanie Hubbard, the film’s director, is a popular author and award-winning documentary film editor and producer whose shows have run on PBS, the Discovery Channel and the History Channel. “We expect festival goers will be captivated by Harvey’s epic quest,” Hubbard says. “People don’t usually think of documentaries as fun, weird and uplifting – but this film is all that! It’s an exploration of the stresses of domestic life, art-making and the strange intersection of theme parks and religion. We are thrilled that SAFILM appreciates our movie and wants to share it with their festival goers.”

“Stephanie’s quirky sense of fun propels this unusual and amusing story,” explains the film’s distributor,David Piperni of Cargo Film & Releasing. “She includes clips from Cecil B. DeMille’s biblical epics for dramatic effect as well as animation and a series of B&W noir-style comic book images to reenact portions of Harvey’s tale.”

Bible Storyland includes interviews with pop culture humorist Charles Phoenix, Jack Haley’s grandson, music and TV producer Buddy Bregman (recorded with Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland) and clergy, scholars and experts on theme park history. Also featured is Jordan’s wife Debi Derryberry, a prolific voice actor best known as the voice of Jimmy Neutron, Speedy (Alka Seltzer) and Draculaura (Mattel’s web series Monster High).
