Chester Zoo, located in Cheshire, England, opened in 1931 and is known for being an internationally important conservation charity and one of the largest zoos in the United Kingdom, spanning over 128 acres. It attracts more than 2 million visitors annually. The zoo cares for almost 30,000 animals from more than 500 species, many highly threatened with extinction. In addition, the zoo cares for nearly 300 threatened plant species.
