IAAPA, the global association for the attractions industry, has released the lineup of speakers for IAAPA Honors, its annual global awards event celebrating excellence in attractions and leisure. This year’s program will feature keynote sessions, behind-the scenes tours of Germany’s largest amusement park, and sessions by subject matter experts from various sectors of the industry.
The event is set to open with a fireside chat featuring Europa-Park’s Owner and Founder Roland Mack, alongside sons and Managing Partners Michael and Thomas Mack, and IAAPA President and CEO Jakob Wahl. Together, these thought leaders will share candid insights into Europa-Park’s evolution – including their origins and how they continuously reign as a leader in themed entertainment. The conversation will also delve into how the Mack family overcame challenges and explored the innovations that have led them to a successful five-decade run in business.
Dr. Robert C. Hanea, founder, chairman, and CEO of Therme Group, will lead a compelling discussion at IAAPA Honors on his vision for the Therme Group, including the recently announced “Islands in the Sky” project. Hanea will highlight how Therme Group is pioneering change in eco-conscious leisure and integrating cutting-edge technology to create immersive destinations that prioritize well-being. Attendees will take away rare insights and strategies on how these advancements are setting new benchmarks for development in the attractions and leisure landscape.
Another event highlight includes a keynote address by Wim Hubrechtsen, CEO of SnowWorld. Hubrechtsen will speak to the vision behind SnowWorld’s expansion into Europe’s largest indoor ski resort and the company’s commitment to sustainability. Hubrechtsen will also share forward-looking strategies that can reshape traditional guest experiences.
Additional panelists include Thomas Buijtenweg, lecturer, Academy for AI, Games & Media, Breda University of Applied Sciences; Eric Jafari, managing director at AENDRE; Katja Mack, founder and CEO of the Europa-Park Talent Academy; and Amanda Thompson, OBE, CEO of Pleasure Beach Resort. Among these industry experts, discussions will range from artificial intelligence, culinary experiences, and workforce challenges to entertainment, guest behavior and storytelling.
Organized for the second year in a row by the global association, IAAPA Honors recognizes significant achievements across the attractions, leisure and tourism industries. Earlier this year, IAAPA announced the finalists across the various award categories as the event prepares to showcase their accomplishments, reveal the official winners, and foster professional learning opportunities through engaging sessions, networking, and exclusive facility tours.
IAAPA Honors will take place at Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, from April 28-30, 2025.
