Meow Wolf Co-Founder Matt King has died

On July 11, 2022 the Meow Wolf Workers Collective announced that Meow Wolf Co-Founder and Senior Creative Director Matt King had passed away. He was 37 years old.

King’s projects with Meow Wolf spanned no less than two dozen, including the Meow Wolf flagship venue in Santa Fe, the House of Eternal Return where his official project title was Project Management & Directorship, Chief Mover of Large & Small Stuff. King also led the Art Team Task Force, a team of 25 internal and local artists, for Meow Wolf’s OmegaMart venue in Las Vegas.

“Matt was an enormous talent. His work has inspired and will continue to inspire millions of people, many of whom never would have visited an art exhibition otherwise. Matt was passionate about using Meow Wolf’s art to connect our audience to the transcendence of creativity that is always around us, just underneath the familiar world,” stated the Meow Wolf Workers Collective. “The collective he co-founded lifted up hundreds of creatives and countless more creatives yet-to-be. For that we wish to express our deepest gratitude and honor to Matt, and our deepest sympathies to his friends and family. We will honor Matt’s memory by caring for one another, collaborating with each other, and telling the world about the endless Source of creativity human beings can access any time we please.”

Meow Wolf creators pose for a red-carpet shot at the 2017 TEA Thea Awards, where House of Eternal Return was recognized for Outstanding Achievement.
