‘Uncharted: The Enigma of Penitence’ opens at PortAventura World

PortAventura World in Spain has inaugurated its new attraction ‘Uncharted: The Enigma of Penitence’, inspired by the Uncharted movie from Sony Pictures Entertainment. It is an indoor roller coaster with five launches, unexpected twists and turns and a lateral drop.

The opening ceremony was also attended by Rich Hill, creative director of Sally Dark Rides, and Ignasi Guasch, CEO of Intamin Amusement Rides.

Immersive experience technology

Built on a base measuring 4,800 m2 and standing 16 metres high, this dark ride roller coaster, designed as a family concept, takes visitors on a 673-metre journey completely in the dark where they will be amazed by a multitude of special and audiovisual effects and immersive experiences in 29 key moments, all based on the film Uncharted, released in cinemas in 2022. The attraction, which reaches a height of 12 metres, is based on technology that makes possible elements such as a state- 360-degree rotating platform, a thrilling 15-meter-high inverted free fall with a steep 70-degree incline, an inverted launch, and a sideways drop.

The visitors’ adventure will begin on the very approach to the area, discovering the imposing mountain, with an experience that starts even before entering the attraction. From the very first minute, the customer becomes an explorer, immersing themselves in the Uncharted story.

An experience aligned with the resort’s ESG commitments

As part of PortAventura World’s social commitment to offer inclusive leisure, ‘Uncharted: The Enigma of Penitence’ has developed an exclusive experience for visitors with functional diversity. This is a virtual reality space where they can delve into the story of the attraction as if they had been on the ride. In addition, the roller coaster has barrier-free access.
