For the first time since 1988, the United States will support the design, build, and operation of the U.S. Pavilion with federal funds. The 2023 Consolidated Appropriations Act includes $25 million for the pavilion—the first appropriation of its type.
The Department of State announced on Nov 13, 2023 that Expo 2025 Osaka USA Pavilion design-build contractor ES Global submitted on October 31 the first set of design documents to the Japan Association for World Expo 2025. ES Global is also preparing to submit a temporary building permit request to the city of Osaka in December. World Expos, also known in the U.S. as World’s Fairs, are historic opportunities to showcase American values, enterprise, culture, and global leadership and to work with international partners to tackle shared global challenges.
The United States will also have official representatives present at the Autumn 2023 International Participants’ Meeting (IPM) for Expo 2025, being held November 14-15, 2023, in Osaka, Japan. The IPM represents an important opportunity to collaborate with Japanese officials, receive strategic updates from Expo organizers, and further prepare for U.S. participation at Expo 2025. Expo 2025 Osaka will open on April 13, 2025, and is expected to receive almost 30 million visitors over the course of its six-month duration.
This strong bipartisan support in the United States for the Osaka Expo underscores the commitment to Japan and the region and ensures America’s strong presence at Expo 2025.
