Universal Parks & Resorts has appointed Joe Hoskin as Executive Vice President & General Manager of Universal Beijing Resort. In his new position, Hoskin will lead Universal Beijing Resort through its next phase of growth, following its opening.
Recent management changes abound throughout the attractions industry in the past few months. InPark Magazine Senior Correspondent Joe Kleiman details these shifts taking place at Universal, Disney and elsewhere.
Tom Mehrmann, who served as President of Universal Beijing Resort through its development and grand opening, will become President and Chief Operating Officer, Universal Parks & Resorts, Pacific Rim, overseeing Universal Studios Hollywood, Universal Studios Japan and Universal Beijing Resort. Since 2017, Mehrmann has worked with Park teams to lead Universal Beijing Resort through its development and grand opening — providing guests from China and abroad with a new cultural tourism landmark in Beijing. Hoskin will report to Mehrmann.
“Tom Mehrmann brought visionary leadership and decades of experience to the successful development and grand opening of Universal Beijing Resort,” said Page Thompson, President and Chief Operating Officer, International, Universal Parks & Resorts. “His new role allows him to build on that experience as we continue to develop a shared, best-practice approach toward creating our world-class guest experiences.”
Hoskin previously served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources, International, Universal Parks & Resorts. In this position he worked with Universal Beijing Resort leadership to recruit and train team members across the destination — giving him in-depth understanding of the destination, its team members and its guest experience. Hoskin has decades of experience working in China on behalf of multinational companies and is fluent in both Mandarin and Cantonese.
“Joe’s leadership in helping us recruit and train an incredible team for Universal Beijing Resort has been vital to our success,” said Thompson. “His unique understanding of Universal Beijing Resort perfectly positions him to take us into the future. I look forward to his leadership.”
