SKIDATA Italy and Gateway Ticketing Systems Achieve SIAE Compliance for Galaxy

Rome, Italy – SKIDATA Italy, srl and Gateway Ticketing Systems, Inc. today announced that the SIAE Authority (Società Italiana degli Autori ed Editori, the copyright protection body of the Italian Revenue Agency) has awarded the market-leading software Galaxy its Compliance Certification for Automated Ticketing Systems for Entertainment Activities (“Certificazione di idoneità per le biglietterie automatizzate per le attività di spettacolo e di intrattenimento”).

The SIAE Compliance Certification is a mandatory requirement for the adoption of a ticketing system in the entertainment business in Italy (such as attraction parks and museums). SKIDATA Italy and Gateway Ticketing Systems put a large effort into this certification, working closely with Revenue Agency officers throughout 2011 to fully understand their expectations and to seamlessly implement them into the Galaxy architecture.

“We’re very proud of this accomplishment,” said Josef Lageder, Country Manager of SKIDATA Italy. “Being SIAE certified is a significant achievement, and further evidence of the quality of our offering and of our commitment to the Italian events market.”

With this certification, SKIDATA Italy is planning to expand its involvement in the leisure market, where it has already been active for many years in the implementation of ticketing and access control solutions in spa resorts, pools and other sport centers.

Lageder further added “The advisory team from ISTI was critical to the success of this project. In addition to providing guidance during the process, they were also responsible for the technical reviews of the certification application”. ISTI is a research institute, belonging to the National Research Council of Italy CNR.

Galaxy is developed by Gateway Ticketing Systems, a US-based company operating internationally. The company provides ticketing and revenue generation solutions for sites that include some of the largest and most attended theme parks in the world. Gateway’s involvement with SKIDATA Italy began when Galaxy was chosen by Costa Edutainment as the ticketing system for the locations it manages, in connection with the SKIDATA Handshake access control platform. Costa Edutainment is the Italian leader in edutainment and manages the AcquarioVillage world in Genoa, consisting of the Genoa Aquarium, the Galata Sea Museum with the Nazario Sauro submarine, The kids city, Biosfera and the Bigo panoramic lift.

Costa Edutainment also chose SKIDATA and Gateway for the Livorno Aquarium, another installation among those managed countrywide, that also include the Cattolica Aquarium (in cooperation with Parco Le Navi Soc. Coop.) and the Cala Gonone Aquarium in Sardinia (in cooperation with Panaque srl.)

“We are excited about the possibilities for expanding our business in the Italian market. Italy is an important market that will play a significant role in Gateway’s strategic growth plans.” said Mike Furman, Director of Sales and Marketing at Gateway Ticketing Systems.

About the efforts to understand the complex Italian regulations, Furman commented, “Gateway has always been dedicated to providing our partners and customers with the tools they need to succeed. We also understand that every local market has its own requirements, and we really appreciate the spirit of cooperation that the Italian officers showed throughout the engagement. Their help and the key role played by SKIDATA Italy were essential to us successfully navigating the certification process.”
