Shuttle Atlantis Unwrapped in Preparation for Exhibition at KSC Visitor Complex

Cape Canaveral, FL, (April 25, 2013) /PRNewswire/– KENNEDY SPACE CENTER – NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex today began the two-day process of unwrapping the Atlantisorbiter from the protective shrink wrap that has encased the priceless artifact during construction of the$100 million Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction, set to open June 29.

Atlantis has been enclosed in 16,000 square feet of protective plastic shrink wrap since its Nov. 2 move from Kennedy Space Center to the Visitor Complex and into the 90,000-square-foot attraction, which has been under construction for 15 months.

In a planned approach today, specialists first cut the shrink wrap into sections and then lifted it away in a dramatic reveal of much of Atlantis, including the forward fuselage. The unwrapping process is expected to be completed on Friday.

Atlantis is raised 30 feet off the ground and rotated at a 43.21 angle as if orbiting Earth. When the attraction opens June 29, guests will have an up-close, 360-degree view of Atlantis from several different levels — the wear and tear of its 33 missions apparent on its protective external tiles.

Next week, Atlantis will be inspected and prepared for display as the final phase of work on the attraction continues. Beginning in May, the orbiter’s payload bay doors will be opened, a meticulous three-week process, allowing guests to see inside the space shuttle’s payload bay as never before.

Meanwhile, assembly continues — with the aid of a 240-foot-tall crane — on two full-size, high-fidelity solid rocket boosters (SRBs), which, when vertically mated with a high-fidelity model of the external tank (ET), will form a dramatic, 184-foot-tall gateway under which visitors will pass to enter the Space Shuttle Atlantis attraction.

Demolition of Controversial Bournemouth IMAX Streaming Live on Council Website

Hoy Lake, England, (April 25, 2013) /PRNewswire/– NW Systems Group’s Streamdays and RemoteManager video streaming and video monitoring services has been selected by Bournemouth Borough Council to provide high quality live and recorded video of the demolition of the local IMAX Waterfront building. Demolition began on 15 February and will be completed during July 2013.

Bournemouth Council’s corporate communications department decided to provide a high quality video streaming service via its website because it saw the demolition of the IMAX Waterfront building as a highly visual event which had wide local appeal.

Its judgement proved correct as the BBC News Dorset (online) as well as several online local media outlets wrote up the story promoting the video link. Many media outlets have since run follow-up news stories on the progress of this popular demolition. NW Systems’ Streamdays service provided all the live and recorded images.

Georgia Turner, Corporate Communications Manager, Bournemouth Borough Council, explained:

“The IMAX Waterfront building deconstruction is highly symbolic for Bournemouth. Our residents have been saying for years that they hated it, want the space used for something that they support and wanted the sea views restored. Thanks to a successful interactive-media campaign, we’ve kept local people informed throughout the demolition phase, using high quality video and social media promotion. This has been able to demonstrate in real time how the Council has listened clearly to what people want, and acted on those views.”

Turner added:

“We had more than 20,000 hits to the live video link by the end of the first weekend, just three days into the demolition. Social media mentions in support of the demolition escalated sharply as more people heard about the deconstruction, and we were able to engage with our community actively in this way.”

Bournemouth Council extend its campaign further through the use of its corporate Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr accounts which has provided updates and archived images on the extent of the demolition including ‘live alerts’ as views of Bournemouth Pier (from behind the site) began to appear.

NW Systems has also created a time lapse video of the demolition together with a library of images via Flickr. All these images are hosted and backed up to NW Systems RemoteManager servers.

Such was the success of the key microsite that Bournemouth BC was able to monetise the page by allowing relevant advertisers including Interserve and 777 Group to place banner adverts on the web pages carrying new images of the site every six seconds at: http://www.bournemouth.gov.uk/Microsites/Waterfront/Waterfront-Live.aspx# .

Frank Crouwel, managing director, NW Systems Group, said:

“We are very proud that both our live streaming service Streamdays and RemoteManager have been used in such a seamless way to provide high quality live and recorded images to suit significant peaks of demand in the early days of the demolition. RemoteManager is now able to provide a robust repository of recorded and live images as both locals and the media continue to follow and update the story.”

RemoteManager is a unique, yet tailorable high resolution video monitoring service offering system design, installation, and wireless or wired connectivity and full hosting of live video and captured images 24/7/365 for the entire length of any construction, refurbishment or demolition project. Streamdays is a live streaming webcam hosting service designed to support local government engagement projects as well as to promote tourist, leisure and hospitality locations.

Tokyo, Japan /BUSINESS WIRE/ — In celebration of the tenth anniversary of Roppongi Hills, a renowned landmark of Tokyo, its developer, Mori Building Co., Ltd. (Headquarters in Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan, President and CEO: Shingo Tsuji) has launched a digital campaign “TOKYO CITY SYMPHONY” on April 23, 2013 (JST) as one of the main features of the anniversary project carried out under the theme “LOVE TOKYO.”

“TOKYO CITY SYMPHONY” is an interactive website, in which users can experience playing with 3D projection mapping on a 1:1000 miniature model of the city of Tokyo. The handcrafted model is an exact replica of the cityscape of Tokyo in every detail. Three visual motifs are projected onto the city in sync with music: “FUTURE CITY,” conjuring futuristic images, “ROCK CITY” that playfully transforms Roppongi Hills into colorful musical instruments and monsters, and “EDO CITY,” or “Traditional Tokyo,” that portrays beautiful Japanese images. Users could play a complex, yet exquisitely beautiful harmony on the city by pressing the keys on the computer keyboard. Each key plays a different beat along with various visual motifs, creating over one hundred different sound and visual combinations. Each user is assigned a symphony score of eight seconds, of which could be shared via Facebook, twitter, and Google+. The numerous symphony scores submitted by the users are put together online to create an infinite symphony.

Teamed up for the project were Japan’s “creative superheroes.” Heading the team as creative director is Tsubasa Oyagi, the winner of numerous awards including three Gold Lions at the 2012 Cannes Lions for the OK Go x Pilobolus: All Is Not Lost-Video Dance Messenger, and the Grand Prix at the Japan Media Arts Festival. This project is the first creation of Oyagi at his newly founded creative boutique SIX. P.I.C.S., a production house known for various interactive movie creations designed the projection mapping, and TAKCOM, a renowned creator trusted by top artists for music video production was assigned as projection director. Also on board are industry-leading creators Kampei Baba as web director and Takayuki Watanabe as programmer, both who work for Bascule Inc., famous for creating interactive websites. The music was entrusted to Koshi Miura, a member of Kuchiroro, an artist unit belonging to Ryuichi Sakamoto’s record label, popular across all ages.

“TOKYO CITY SYMPHONY” is just one of the various attractions planned for the celebration. Mori Art Museum will be showing “ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE – From Chagall to Kusama and Hatsune Miku,” exhibiting the works by various artists including Yayoi Kusama and Hatsune Miku. Brother Moon & Sister Sun’s TALL TALE: new ride to be designed by Gary Goddard for Lotte World

Lotte Tall TaleSeoul, Korea – Lotte World’s aggressive expansion continues as this week the park announced their newest addition, a family drop ride called “Brother Moon & Sister Sun’s TALL TALE”, to be designed by Hollywood entertainment design firm the Goddard Group. Hardware for the new attraction is being provided by S&S Worldwide of Utah. The ride is slated to take its first riders in early May.

Based upon a popular Korean fairy tale in which a brother and sister are chased into the sky by a ferocious tiger, riders will experience firsthand the story’s climactic moments as they are dangled and dropped just inches away from the tiger’s reach.

Tall Tale gives us the chance to let guests step into the world of a beloved local fairy tale, much in the same way we were able to bring the world of the friendly Korean ogres to life in our Underland project” says Taylor Jeffs, Director of Design for the Goddard Group. He adds “In an age where the whole world online, immersing guests in fully-realized fantasy worlds and stories is the one thing the theme park medium can do better than any other.”

To create the unique world of “Tall Tale”, the Goddard Group relied on the talents of longtime collaborators Christopher Smith and Phil Mendez, both formerly key designers at Walt Disney Imagineering. There, the two men helped to create some of the most beloved attractions and characters found at Disney’s theme parks.

Sang Han, Attraction Producer for Lotte World, says of the new ride “Like our other recent attractions, Brother Moon and Sister Sun’s Tall Tale will take immersive storytelling to levels never before seen in Korea. As guests return to Lotte World for our 25th Anniversary in 2014, we know they’ll be thrilled with the incredible arsenal of new top-quality experiences we’ve created for them.”

The popular South Korean theme park has recently enjoyed some of its highest attendance since it opened in 1989, and in turn has been rolling out a number of new attractions in the last few months including the “Jumping Fish” family ride, “Do You Speak Beluga?” interactive theatre, as well as an entirely-new themed zone called “Underland”.

ABOUT LOTTE WORLD

Lotte World is a world-class theme park located in the heart of Seoul, South Korea. Since its opening in 1989, the park has consistently ranked among the world’s top-performing theme parks, consistently drawing between 5 and 7 million visitors each year. Located in Seoul’s Jamsil district, the park is divided into two main themed areas- Lotte World Adventure (indoor theme park) and Magic Island (outdoor attraction area).

The park features a number of heavily-themed attractions including “The Adventure of Sinbad,” “Pharaoh’s Fury,” and “Atlantis Adventure,” in addition to a number of classic family rides, shows, and attractions.

In October 2012, the Lotte World and the Goddard Group announced a strategic creative partnership that would lead to the creation of new lands, attractions, shows, restaurants, and stores. To date, this partnership has resulted in the opening of three new projects, including the Jumping Fish family ride, Do You Speak Beluga? interactive theatre, and Underland themed zone.

Saint Louis moves forward with Arch grounds revamp

cityarchriver-2015-planST. LOUIS, Missouri USA – David Donoghue with Haley Sharpe Design, the team providing planning and design for exhibits at the Museum of Westward Expansion under the Arch and the Old Courthouse, provided a glimpse into the new and expanded exhibits and programming CityArchRiver 2015 will bring, at a public meeting April 16.  Working with park historians, local scholars and a Universal Design Group, Haley Sharpe is creating an experience that will be new, interactive, relevant and appealing to all generations.

“We want to make the museum experiences at the Arch and the Old Courthouse accessible and relevant to a wide variety of audiences,” said Donoghue. “The stories we are developing for these museums will explore both the story of America’s westward expansion and also provide more focus on St. Louis’ pivotal role in that story.”

Designed by world-renowned landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, CityArchRiver 2015 connects the Gateway Arch grounds with the East and West riverfronts and the region. Through the creation of new spaces for events and public education, expanded museum space, additional park acreage and bicycle trails, children’s play areas, performance venues and a lively, invigorated riverfront, locals and tourists alike will find new opportunities to learn, linger and enjoy one of the world’s most recognized icons.

CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation announced April 16 that plans to enhance the Arch experience for everyone remain on track for completion by October 2015. Partner organizations, including Great Rivers Greenway, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) and the National Park Service, detailed coming traffic changes and riverfront improvements at the third annual Report to the Community.  New museum exhibit designs for the Old Courthouse and the museum under the Arch were also unveiled.

“All of us are moving forward together to complete these transformative changes by October 28, 2015, and enhance the Arch experience for everyone,” said Walter Metcalfe, chairman of CityArchRiver 2015 Foundation. “Over half of the components of this project are now fully funded and construction is starting this year.”

Over the last year, partners have continued to collaborate on a comprehensive design for the Arch grounds to include improvements that will enhance the visitor experience with an expanded Museum, access to the river and trails to the north and south of the Arch, and increased park space and pathways. The project received a boost on April 2, when voters in St. Louis County and City approved Proposition P which will provide funding for the CityArchRiver 2015 project and regional parks and trails.

Public-Private Partnerships Strengthen Project

St. Louis area district engineer Ed Hassinger confirmed that MoDOT will break ground on roadway improvements this summer, marking the beginning of construction on the Park Over the Highway component. These changes will provide better access between the city, the Arch and the river and substantially improve neighboring streets for vehicles and pedestrians alike.

“MoDOT has been a committed partner in CityArchRiver 2015 from day one,” said Hassinger. “We are on schedule to start construction this summer and will come in significantly under budget for the roadway improvements contained in this project.”

Great Rivers Greenway District has championed the Arch and riverfront as the backbone for the River Ring – a regional system of trails that connects St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County. The organization is responsible for the public funds generated from the passage of Proposition P and is leading development of the riverfront portion of the project. Great Rivers Greenway has appointed a Citizen Advisory Committee to provide public input on the visitor experience, programming and sustainability.

“We thank the voters of St. Louis County and City for choosing to invest in this project and our parks and trails,” said Susan Trautman, executive director of Great Rivers Greenway.  “We are committed to working with the public and all project partners to create a more connected region through enhancing the visitor experience at the riverfront and on the Arch grounds. This project fits perfectly with our organization’s goal to make the St. Louis region a better place to live.”

Project on Track for Completion by Arch 50th Anniversary

Across the board, speakers affirmed that project timelines remain on schedule to celebrate the invigorated Arch experience by October 28, 2015, the 50th anniversary of the completion of the Arch. Tom Bradley, superintendent of the Jefferson National Expansion Memorial reported that work on the National Park Service Environmental Assessment for the design is complete and nearing final approval.

“We continue to fully support CityArchRiver 2015,” Bradley said. “The project’s inspirational design and innovative public-private partnership are breaking new ground that will be crucial to sustaining our national park system moving forward.”

Universal City, CA, USA (April 23, 2013) — NBCUniversal announced today plans to begin construction of the first projects of its 25-year Evolution Plan. The Evolution Plan represents a $1.6 billion investment in tourism and production. This long-term investment in two industries that are vital to Los Angeles will create more than 30,000 jobs and generate $2 billion of economic activity during operations for the region.

“After nearly a decade of work on the Evolution Plan, today’s vote sets the stage for our next 100 years in Los Angeles,” said Ron Meyer, president and COO of Universal Studios. “We are thankful for the support and leadership we have received from both the County and City of Los Angeles and are ready to get started investing in these important tourism and production projects in the next few months.”

Starting in late summer, NBCUniversal will begin construction of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter themed land at Universal Studios Hollywood theme park, as well as new and upgraded television production facilities, office space and infrastructure on the Universal Studios lot. These projects represent a nearly $500 million investment in the Los Angeles economy and the creation of more than 2,000 construction jobs alone.

“We thank Los Angeles County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky, the entire Board of Supervisors, and County staff for providing us the path to bring much needed jobs and investment to Los Angeles,” said Corinne Verdery, Chief Real Estate Development and Planning Officer, NBCUniversal. “The working relationship we have built with the community was invaluable in developing our future plan and we are grateful to our nearly 7,500 supporters and union partners who have been with us every step of the way. We look forward to bringing The Wizarding World of Harry Potter to Hollywood, forever changing the face of tourism in Los Angeles.”

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios Hollywood will be a fully immersive experience for the entire family designed to bring the Harry Potter fiction and films to life with impeccable detail and authenticity. Similar to the dynamic Universal Orlando Resort themed land that opened in 2010, the Hollywood experience will be faithful to the visual landscape of the fiction and films, including Hogwarts castle that will serve as the centerpiece of the impressively themed environment. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Entertainment and Universal Parks and Resorts.

On the Universal Studios lot, NBCUniversal will upgrade existing production facilities and add new capabilities to better respond to the needs of television production. In addition, NBCUniversal is looking to create modern offices that will house everything from post-production services to traditional office space.

About The Evolution Plan

The NBCUniversal Evolution Plan is a blueprint for the 391-acre Universal City property. The plan includes upgrades and improvements to our production and post production facilities, a revitalized entertainment destination, and modern office space, all without expanding the current property. The plan also includes more than $100 million investment in transportation and transit improvements. These advancements will secure our role as one of the world’s largest working studios, keeping high-paying production jobs in Los Angeles while adding significant investment and tax revenue to our local economy. For more information about the Evolution Plan, go to www.nbcuniversalevolution.com.

NBCUniversal will also be making significant investments in the community including providing funding for the development of a bikeway along critical segments of the Los Angeles River as well as funding for programs and local organizations that will enhance the neighborhoods closest to the property including landscaping and neighborhood traffic protection measures.

Although today’s endorsement by the County Board of Supervisors is a critical step, the Evolution Plan project will require additional approvals as it moves through the final County processes.
