London Paramount Resort Announces Newest Stage of Public Consultations
The amount of interest and engagement that we have received over the last ten months has been hugely encouraging and we are looking forward to being able to show the local community how the proposals have evolved since the first viewing of the plans in November 2014. We hope local people can come along to the events and provide their feedback on the plans we are proposing to submit to the Secretary of State later this year.” — Fenlon Dunphy, London Paramount
London, UK (April 14, 2015) — London Resort Company Holdings, the developer behind the multi-billion pound London Paramount Entertainment Resort in North Kent, will be hosting ten public consultation events in Dartford and Gravesham between 29 April and 14 May. Visitors to the exhibitions will have the opportunity to view the emerging masterplan, a range of proposed transport options and a scaled model of the resort.

This latest round of consultation forms the fourth stage of community engagement on the resort and will help the project team to hear the public’s views on the plans that will be submitted to the Secretary of State later this year. Once complete, the world class entertainment resort plans to bring up to 27,000 jobs to the area and boast a great variety of exciting rides and attractions themed around the film and television programmes of Paramount Pictures Corporation, the BBC and Aardman Animations.

Over the past ten months the project team has held three stages of public consultation and met with over 4,900 local residents, businesses and community representatives. Most recently a series of workshop events were held in order to further discussions on key elements of the proposals including transport, infrastructure, environment, heritage, tourism, and employment. A report detailing the feedback from the workshops is available on the London Paramount website (www.londonparamount.info).

Tales from the Expo – Lessons for world’s fair exhibitors: an IPM online book by James Ogul

IPM Books LogoThis series was written exclusively for InPark Magazine by James Ogul, former employee of the US State Department and closely concerned with the US presence at world expos from 1982 through today. Through detailed case studies of individual pavilions, this book exposes challenges and solutions applicable to all world expos and world expo participants. It addresses pavilion and exhibition design, planning, funding, construction, operations, politics and diplomacy – as well as the big-picture issues that all expo exhibitors and host countries face.

Editor Judith Rubin has been chronicling world expos since 1987, as the former associate editor of World’s Fair magazine (published by Alfred Heller and now out of print). She also edited the first edition of The Expo Book by Gordon Linden, which first appeared in the pages of InPark Magazine.

Since the first world’s fair (the Crystal Palace Exhibition) took place in London in 1851, fifty-five international expositions have been held throughout the world. Although there has not been a world expo hosted in North America since 1986 (Vancouver), these great events continue to occur on a regular basis in Europe and Asia, and there is no shortage of countries and cities eagerly petitioning the Bureau of International Expositions (BIE) for the privilege of hosting one. The many benefits to hosting and participating in world expos include international goodwill and diplomacy, trade relations, and infrastructure and tourism development. Shanghai Expo 2010 broke all records with 70 million visits and a single-day attendance of over one million.

The United States has a history of participation at these distinguished events. James Ogul’s first professional world’s fair experience was in 1965, when he helped manage a children’s exhibit entitled “Atomsville USA” at the New York World’s Fair. His expo career resumed some years later when, working for the US Department of Commerce, he was tapped to work as an Exhibits Officer for the US Pavilion at Knoxville ’82. Next, he was Exhibits Director for the US Pavilion at New Orleans ’84 and at Tsukuba ’85. Ogul has remained involved in the US presence at world expositions on a continual basis from then on, as a US government employee until his retirement from the State Department in 2011, and as adviser and private sector consultant since then.

Polin Supplies Sphere and other Waterpark Elements for Crystal Aura Beach Resort in Turkey

Istanbul, Turkey — Guests at the Crystal Aura Beach Resort & Spa in Kemer, Turkey, have always had lots of reasons to praise the park. Its all-inclusive, five-star offerings include delectable cuisine, luxury spa treatments and lavish accommodations. But now guests have a whole new reason to rave about the resort: a variety of world-class waterpark attractions that recently were installed Polin Waterparks.

Owned by the Kilit Group, the park’s owners worked with Polin – which had also designed and installed waterparks at sister properties Crystal Sunset and Crystal Waterworld – to identify the perfect attractions to feature at their resort. Guests already had access to Kemer Marina and Nomad Theme Park in the nearby seaside town located in the Antalya Province on the Turkish Riviera. Those temptations meant that Crystal Aura’s owners wanted aquatic offerings that would entice guests to stay on property for the duration of their visits. Thus, the owners chose some of Polin’s most appealing rides, focusing most particularly on wanting one of Polin’s wildly popular Sphere slides.

Crystal_Aura_Antalya_Turkey (10)Polin’s Sphere waterslide is a streamlined version of its giant Magic Sphere. The two-person slide
begins with a steep drop, and the high-speed journey moves travelers in a dizzying ride around the interior of one sphere before taking them through a tunnel slide to the next sphere.

Main features of the slide include:

–A unique ride path
–Design attributes that can match any theme or color scheme
–Strong visual impact
–A fully enclosed version to create a completely dark attraction
–A partially open version that includes half-open spheres
–The option of a translucent version
–The choice between a conveyor or tower entry
–Both visual and auditory special effects options
–Double, triple and quadruple versions
–Either a pool or run-out exit

Like with most of Polin’s offerings, the Spheres are manufactured using resin transfer molding (RTM) composites technology. The Spheres’ attraction also features Polin’s patented Natural Light Effects (NLE) technology. This special lighting effect requires no electricity. Instead, harmonious, colorful designs occur when the sun’s rays shine through the slide’s fiberglass sides and interact with the flow of water through the tubes. The designs continually change and adapt depending on the angle and strength of the sunlight.

Crystal_Aura_Antalya_Turkey (2)

Crystal Aura also chose several other Polin attractions to feature in its new waterpark. These new offerings are:

–An Aquatube. Facilities looking for an exhilarating, rapid ride can rely on this slide, which features visual and auditory effects that will give guests a ride to remember.
–A Black Hole. This enclosed tube slide is Polin’s most popular ride. It offers an incredible and unique ride experience with a variety of special effects, including NLE, that no other manufacturer offers.
–A Big Hole. Take Polin’s Black Hole, add steroids and you have the Big Hole. Its substantial size allows families to ride together on its larger tubes.
–A Black Hole/Flying Boats Combination. Polin connects two of its popularthrill slides using splash boats and making it available in two different configurations. One is a downhill ride, and the other is uphill, where riders are pushed aloft on water jets, much like a rollercoaster. Guests experience a journey full of surprises, traveling up and down and – when they think the ride is nearly complete – are thrilled by a last-minute surprise drop.

The Kilit Group, owned by the Kilit family of nearby Antalya, originally made a name for itself back in 1955. That’s when founder Turan Kilit began supplying glassware to hotels and resorts. Today, the firm is managed by Turan’s three sons Suleyman, Tuncay and Taner.

Crystal Aura is located on a private section of Aura Beach, 48 km (30 miles) from the Antalya Airport and 38 km (23.5 miles) from Antalya’s city center. It features 416 air-conditioned rooms with fully stocked minibars, LCD televisions, private balconies and complimentary wireless Internet access. Spa offerings include massages, body treatments and facials. Guests can choose from four on-site restaurants or from the 24-hour room-service menu.

Erdogan Turan, General Manager , said the new waterslides at the resort provide a complete experience for guests. “Nearby attractions might tempt them to leave our property, but once they begin riding the slides, they can’t get enough,” he says. “They can spend all day at the resort and never tire of the offerings we provide to them.”

Convergent Design Odyssey7Q+ Capable of Record Frame Rates to 4K/UHD 60p, 2K/HD 240p

Colorado Spring, CO, USA (April 13, 2015) — Convergent Design engineers are always working to expand the capabilities of the Odyssey family of monitor/recorders. Today the company announces that Apple ProRes 4K/UHD will be possible up to 60p and 2K/HD will be possible up to 240p. The new capabilities will be available for all currently supported Apple ProRes formats, Apple ProRes 422 (HQ), Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 (LT).

“We are pleased to provide these capabilities at no cost to our clients,” said John Schell, Hardware Design Manager, Convergent Design. “While designing the Odyssey Family of Products three years ago, Convergent Design had a vision of a comprehensive solution for monitoring and recording. This vision pushed us to design a multi-generational platform to support cameras and formats not yet developed. The capability built into the Odyssey platform from the beginning allows us to continue to unlock new cameras, formats, and features, giving our clients new tools to express their creativity. The addition of 4K60p and 2K240p Apple ProRes shows the continuing vision of the Odyssey platform.”.

High frame rate material is useful both for creating slow motion material and more immersive content. Several networks and distributors are specifying 60p frame rates for UHD deliverables. Some cameras can only output higher frame rates in a RAW data format. RAW data at high frame rates consumes vast amounts of memory. Instead recording high frame rate material in Apple ProRes significantly reduces on set media needs, slashes offload times, dramatically simplifies post workflows, and shortens post schedules.

The first input format scheduled to be made available with the higher frame rates are the RAW data signals from the Sony FS7 and FS700 for clients utilizing the Sony FS Record Option on the Odyssey7Q and Odyssey7Q+. This will allow the recording of 4K RAW -> 4K/UHD/2K/HD Apple ProRes up to 60p, 2K RAW -> 2K/HD Apple ProRes up to 240p, and 4K RAW Burst -> 4K/UHD Apple ProRes up to 120p (available on the FS700). The new capabilities will be made available in a free future firmware update to all users who have purchased the FS700 record option.

Future support will include Canon C500/C300 MK2 4K RAW, Canon C500/C300 MK2 HD video (up to 120fps), Sony F5/F55 4K/UHD video, and others. All Apple ProRes frame rate expansions will be provided via free firmware updates. Current owners of Record Options will receive increased capabilities within their Record Options at no additional cost.

10433109_659529484164378_5471568617348229809_n

The Odyssey7Q+ is one of the most advanced, most capable, most versatile monitor/recorders in the world. The Odyssey7Q+ can record 4K/UHD/2K/HD via SDI and HDMI. It can record RAW (with Record Options), uncompressed DPX, and Apple ProRes. The Odyssey7Q+ features an OLED 1280×800 monitor with true blacks, accurate colors, extended color gamut and a 176 degree viewing angle. Along with the best image in the industry, the Odyssey7Q+ also features an extensive array of image analysis tools, including RGB waveform, RGB Histogram, False Color, Pixel Zoom with finger drag, three-mode Focus Assist and monitoring LUTs.
